Traf-FAQ for the week of March 27, 2008:
Only this week a road rage incident was reported in Freemont, California near San Jose. What were the main details of this unfortunate event?
ANSWER:
Three men have each been charged with two felony crimes after a Fremont couple was assaulted in front of their two daughters during a road rage incident in north Fremont Friday night.
Fremont residents Leaututu Paul Asiasi, 25, Andrew Faamafu Asiasi, 26, and Wesley Jeffrey Histake Jr., 30, have each been arraigned on two counts of assault with a deadly weapon with force likely to cause great bodily injury.
Andrew Asiasi is being held at Santa Rita county jail in lieu of $260,000 bail, while brother Leaututu Asiasi and brother-in-law Histake are being held in lieu of $165,000 and $160,000 bail, respectively.
The trio is expected to return to court on Thursday to enter a plea, court records show.
The records also show that Leaututu Asiasi was convicted of second-degree commercial burglary in March 2005, and his brother Andrew was convicted in January 2001 of second-degree robbery in San Mateo County. Both served jail sentences for those crimes.
The assault charges were filed three days after a 36-year-old man suffered a fractured skull and his 43-year-old wife a broken arm during an attack at the intersection of Fremont Boulevard and Enea Common.
Both victims were taken to a local trauma center for treatment. Neither of their injuries were believed to be life-threatening. Their daughters, ages 9 and 12, were not harmed in the incident.
